Possible kidney stones?

Hi all,

Has anyone any advice on kidney stone? I have had bilateral flank pain for 2-3 weeks..can sometimes but more painful on the left side but occasionally "stabby" on the right. It's very intermittent.

The past week it's worse.. in particular about 45mins- to an hour after I've drank.

I've had urinalysis every couple of days...nothing shown up except ketones 3+. The latest on friday was blood trace and the same 3+ ketones.

I'm currently in bed now after taking painkillers and a very hot hot water bottle and it is helping. The pain radiates to lower back and occasionally to the abdomen. Nausea on and off too.

I'm sick of it now. The pain whilst very sore isn't sore enough for an a and e visit. I'll try get to the doctor this week but I don't get paid until Friday.

I mentioned it to the doc in work and she said it could possibly be kidney stones but if so I feel they should have passed by now. Plus if going by stories I've heard the pain doesn't seem severe enough.

Any advice/experiences

Hi. Sorry to hear you are poorly. Unless you have a underlying medical condition, kidney stones on both sides simultaneously is reasonably uncommon from what I have been told. Who has been doing your urinalysis and what is their thoughts on the ketones? Are you eating properly? Any issues with your blood sugars?

My daughter has the same thing. Right hand side though, pain in her side comes on suddenly for an hour to two then gradually disappears. It was thought to be appendix but now that is not an option so GP said possible kidney stones too. She's been crying with the pain tells me it's like "being shot with a gun" not that she's ever been shot with a gun mind

I've been doing my own urinalysis. It's def worse on one side but the pain is there on both. The ketones I'm putting down to not drinking enough. Combination of not ebough breaks in work and fear of the pain Blush

Blood sugars are ok I think. If they are low I'm asymptomatic.

Just an update here...went to docs this morning because the pain was particularly bad. She queries was it appendicitis or kidneys stones and went sent me to ED.

Went to ed...waited forever...got a quite dismissive doctor. He said he thinks it's constipation. I don't see how...I've no problems in that department at all.

Got a abdominal x-ray...comes back says yep...It's constipation..take senna.

I'm torn between being absolutly mortified...I saw so many work collegues there...they are all going to think I'm an asshole going to ED with constipation....I'm still in pain. I'm not convinced it is that at all BlushHmm
