If i dont get some sleep tonight im going to lose the plot!

For the last two nights ive been having this annoying thing happen which is keeping me awake.

Im so tired that within 5 mins of my head hitting the pillow im drifting. Then suddenly my leg will jerk, or a hot feeling seems to come through my head, sometimes with a buzzing noise, or as if ive heard a bang and i jolt awake, physically shaking, heart racing and terrified.

It's happened two nights running, every time i just start to drift off. Ive had a total of four hours sleep in two days and i feel exhausted, how i got through work today i dont know.

I did have a look around the internet and found that quite a few people get this, is nothing to worry about, possibly stress related (would make sense as ive had a lot lately). But i NEED some sleep! I'm scared its going to happen again tonight.

Does anyone get this and know how to stop it happening? Any advice much appreciated.

i gat the jolty thing when i'm overtired. maybe somee serious chilling out before bed, perhaps even some sort of herbal relaxant thingy - legal i mean, like kalms!

Thanks Nicky. How long before bed would you take the Kalms? I have some but didn't take them until this had happened several times last night, by then i was probably too wound up for them to work.

Does anyone else get this too?

Did you learn any relaxation/breathing exercises when you were pregnant? You could try those.

Also - I would recommend massage /aromatherapy, or if that is too pricey, try a soak in the bath with a few drops of lavender oil. It does sound stress related.

Is there any chance of alleviating the cause of the stress - or is that impossible ATM?

The trouble is - the more overtired you get, the harder it is to relax isn't it? Just like babies really.

Not a long term solution but night nurse is good, a swig of that and i'm away with the fairies.

defo sounds anxiety related, so as other posters said, try to chill out- 'as if' I hear you say, I know whats its like when you are stressed.

Night nurse it is then!

sorry, back to bed, had to go last night. did you get any more sleep. i'd guess an hour before bed for the kalms. migh talso be worth trying some of the over the counter sleep aids, though not at the same time!
