Can any GP access my medical record?

Hello all, first a it about me, I’m 22 and have recently raised a very embarrassing issue with my GP. Now my issue is that I know a girl who works literally on the next desk, albeit it is a different surgery. (Mine is normal GP and she works in a children’s service).

They are 2 different gps with different doctors etc but I was wondering if this girl has access to my medical records or would that solely be for the admin staff of my GP and mine only?

This girl, who I know very well has been in trouble with police etc numerous times so I’m gobsmacked how she got this job in the first place, safe to say she’s not very nice.

Thank you

If she’s employed by a separate GP surgery then she shouldn’t be able to access your records although there is a certain amount of file sharing nowadays for people with authority.

Everything she does on her computer is recorded and if she does have that authority and accesses your record without good reason it’s an instantly sackable offence so if you have any suspicion that she has then go to your surgery practice manager and raise it with them to check.

Please be reassured that people who work in surgeries have seen it all in terms of what you might consider embarrassing and it’s water off a duck’s back.

She works for a separate gp as far as I am aware under a different name and completely different staff. This girl has an ulterior motive when it comes to me we don’t exactly see eye to eye and this Information, if she had it would almost certainly be viewed as she is a very nasty girl and I’m certain she would blab. We have mutual friends and circles so it’s the last person I would want knowing.

Onbviosly I know my GPs admin can view but can any GP admin see or do they only have access to there own patients files

Generally it’s just the files for the patients at the surgery they’re employed by and if she has the authority for the inter surgery file sharing she would have to click a box requesting to see it which (I think?) sends an auto message to someone senior to her saying she has done it. Obviously by then it would be too late but she will know that she’d lose her job which is incentive enough not to surely?

I do know of someone who lost their job for this exact reason so it’s not just theory.

I work in a surgery so hope this helps. When you start you are given a specific log in it only works for the surgery you work at even if the other surgery has the same computer system and she tried to log on it wouldn't allow her. Ive got a colleague who works at our of hours they put thete card in and have to choose if its the surgery or out of hours they couldnt acsess anything else unless they have beem set up to be able to log onto thr system. We can only see out patients records not anyone elses . Sometimes patients are referred to our surgery to see a counsellor or physio we can not see their records at all. Everything we do is tracked from appointments to prescriptions , every message we send. To access someone's records without a reason is gross misconduct and we would be sacked , confidentiality is incredibly important and we are regularly trained on it. We also have to sign a confidentiality agreement I don't know legally if there is any come back if you breech this as I've never known anyone do it but you would be instantly sacked.
