How do you clean removeable retainers?

We have just been given these by hospital orthodontist but no advice on how to clean them - they are smelly after 2 days. There is no opportunty to go back to hospital to ask this now. A friend suggested retainer brite. It looks like it is supposed to be cleaned in a special container with a special brush? Please can someone tell me if they use retainer brite or similar and recommend a container and brush? Thanks very much.

Could you put it in the dishwasher?

I just use any plastic cup and retainer brite, I clean it with an old tooth brush every day and use RB once a week.

We used Steradent tablets and a gentle bristled brush. We got a denture box from a chemist, filled it with water and the tablet, and left during the day giving it a gentle brush before DD put it in at night.

Retainer brite with cold water. Half the tablet once a week makes them last double the time. Rinse with cold water and store in a dry container every day. I'm An ortho nurse.

Thank you so much everyone - we have been told to wear it all day and all night except if eating, drinking or sports. Do you think we need extra care as it is being used all the time?

I think you'd need to make even more of an effort to clean it if it's being used nearly all day long. Retainer brite is what orthodontists usually recommend.

but make sure NOT to leave it in the solution for longer than the time stated in the instructions (usually 10-15 mins max)
