Amlodipine missed doses

No idea where else to ask this.

I'm 29 and on amlodipine for hypertension, I went to fill my repeat prescription to be told "we won't have it til Monday, is that okay?" That was fine as I run out on Sunday.

When they called me to get a separate prescription the pharmacist said "and come back for your amlodipine on Tuesday, Wednesday".

If Tuesday I'll miss one dose, if Wednesday I'll miss two. Obviously I'll ring them tomorrow and Monday to see if they have it back in stock, but if they don't I'm not sure what to do. Is it a huge problem to potentially miss a dose or two?

I do have some Ramipril from when I was taking that (stopped due to some minor side effects, it did work as intended) - is it better to miss the dose entirely, or to take some Ramipril in the meantime?

You need to speak to your doctor really, if they can't get your prescription on time then maybe you need to get it from another pharmacy and will need another emergency prescription. The pharmacy may be able to find it somewhere else for you, Boots did that for me, they rang round till they found a branch that had mine in stock. When did you put your prescription in.

Healthcare professional here- did you tell the pharmacist that you run out on Sunday? If so they absolutely should not be knowingly leaving you short. Amlodipine is one of the most commonly dispensed drugs in the country so they should definitely have it back in by tomorrow. If not I would get your prescription back and take it elsewhere before you run out.

Definitely do not take the ramipril in the meantime if it was previously stopped by your doctor as it is not interchangeable with amlodipine. It is a completely different type of drug that works in a different way to reduce blood pressure and may not be safe for you to take without consulting your doctor first.

Just to add that you shouldn't miss any doses of the amlodipine so make sure you get some before you run out as missed doses can adversely affect your blood pressure.

Another HCP here ... do not take the Ramipril .

Thanks for the advice - yes, I did inform the pharmacist that I needed it by Monday, but that was obviously ignored. Unfortunately the pharmacy has recently changed hands and gone massively downhill, they're convenient for me but I won't be using them again.

If they don't have it in tomorrow I'll get my prescription back and go elsewhere. They also made me pay before telling me they didn't have it! What a pain in the ass. Will complain. Thanks everyone.
