Numb right leg. Any ideas?

My right leg is numb, has been since last night. I thought I had sat on it funny, but the feeling did not come back again. I went to bed thinking nothing of it really, and this morning it is still numb.

From just above the ankle, to the knee, including half the knee. I am not sure if it the skin or the muscle. The back of the leg is ok, calk muscle has feeling, but the front of my leg, it feels cold, biut heavy and well numb! in particular the middle, which seems to have no sensation at all.
It does not hurt, is not effecting my foot.

Any ideas what this could be? Should I get it checked out or is it likely to just be a trapped nerve or something?

I took emergency contraception on thursday and thought it might be a side effect of this?

Hmmm, I would go to the doctor's, tbh.

Here is a reasonably informative page on the subject. It may well be nothing, but you should try to see a doctor today, I think, just in case.

wel, reassuringly enough, the most scary ones, which of course always cross your mind dont they, well no alarms bells are ringing from it. The one that I think might be true...smoking and drinking. Over the last two weeks I have drunk more than I normally would, and have smoked some cigerettes. NOt exessive drinking but I only recently stopped BF when I smoked once or twice, and hardly drank any alcohol. so I guess my body was not used to the alcohol and nicotine. That''' teach me.

I will go to GP to check it just in case it might be something else tho.

Well, let us know. I assume it's not getting worse, and no other weird stuff is happening?

Worriedbootnoot · 18/06/2007 14:37

Its not too much worse, I dont think its worse, just getting more annoying if that makes sense.

I am pretty sure its the skin, not the muscle, but hard to say. The calf muscle is ok, but its absolutely dea from half the knee down all the front, and mostly numb just above the ankle.

Its certainly not getting any better, and the loss of sensation is awful .

I could not get Drs appt today .
I had thought it might have been drinking more than usual/having some cigerettes that I would not usually have, but I have had no alcohol or cigerettes since yesterday. And When I say more than usual, I mean I got drunk twice this week. Smoked 3 cigerretes last night.

My friend has a numb patch on her left leg which got bigger over a few years. She's had lots of tests but no diagnosis and as far as the doctors can tell this is just normal for her. Like you - her numb patch came on suddenly but in her case it has never gone. She now just lives with it - it's no worse than it was three years ago but she still doesn't know what caused it.

it would be worth seeing a doctor for advice but try to keep in mind that it's probably nothing.
