Earlier this year I had 4 really bad bouts of my gallstones causing lots of pain and giving me an infected liver.
After having an MRI about 6 weeks after the last bout to check if any of the stones were stuck or blocking any ducts I was told that actually my gallstones have gone!! I was pretty surprised as I didn’t really think they went on their own.
I was still offered surgery and put on the waitlist. I’ve just received an appointment letter to go for my final pre surgery assessment but I’m wondering if I should go ahead with the surgery?
My main reservations are:
- The gallstones are gone so I’m no longer in any pain
- I have a 10 month old to look after and am still breastfeeding which could be tricky during recovery
- The surgery is likeky to be just as I return to work
- I have no family close by to help with childcare during recovery and they are unable to visit at the time of my surgery due to their own hospital appointments and my husband will be around but can’t take a week off work on those dates due to meetings in other countries already pre booked (there and back same day)
Has anybody else been in the same situation? Did you opt for the surgery? Or have your gallstones returned?
