Fractured clavicle - when to consider surgery

I've managed to fall and fracture my clavicle - it's a full break. The doctor has said that surgery is not indicated (because the bone spike is not risking rupturing the skin) but is an option as I will probably lose up to 2cm in length.

Does anyone know whether it would be normal to have surgery in this situation? I'm not in the UK so this is private medical. My initial reaction was who cares about 2cm but my husband thinks it's a big deal and I should be worried about it.
