Adult tooth appears to be growing back!

I have googled and this looks to be impossible but wondered if anyone else had experienced this.

My molar (not my wisdom tooth) is partially missing, I have a phobia of dentists and as its causing me no pain and not affecting my bite at all I have ignored it. My tongue automatically goes to that area, particularly the gum that has lost the front of the tooth. I have recently felt sharp tooth like material emerging from the gum. I can clearly see when I look in the mirror what looks like another tooth coming through in the place the half of tooth I lost was once previously. I considered it may be receding of the gum and maybe its remnants of the previous tooth but I lost it over 5 years ago and its always been a smooth gum-line and an empty socket when I have run my tongue over it before. Anyone know what this could be (i will be seeing a dentist but just interested to hear if anyone else has had a tooth grow back) I am 53 and have all 4 wisdom teeth.

Dentist here. Tooth will not be growing back. Without looking and taking an X-ray it’s hard to tell. Likely to be a retained fragment of root coming to the surface. Or occasionally a bone fragment but much more unusual. See your dentist as planned.

Thanks for replying Bonzo, I appreciate it. I think a visit to my dentist is long overdue, I have always had good teeth but I musnt be complacent and will pull up my big girl pants and make an appointment :)
