Anyone know about ultrasounds/ diagnostic scans?

I have a clearly visible lump in/on mu mid/upper right abdomen

Several GP/consultants have seen it and are a bit bemused - it arrived this year and grew to hand sized between easter and about June. It's now somewhere between an flattish advacado and a smallish mango

It has been a lump due to my ovarian cyst, a hernia and a lipoma - but now my cyst has been removed I have asked for it to be properly diagnosed.

I have had 2 ultrasounds (for the cyst) both operators (? Is that the right term) looked at my lump because they were surprised/interested about it - first one said it's not really his area he didn't know enough as he generally does gynae but it was difficult to see because of where it is and my bowel. The second looked and said because of the bowel she couldn't see anything.

I have been referred for a third ultrasound - should I go? Ring and explain the last 2 appts? or cancel?

KatyMac do go for the third scan and explain that you had 2 inconclusive ones. You should then be referred to a consultant, ask at the time when/if this is going to happen. They can't just leave it at that.

I would recommend ringing the Hospital and explaining the situation, and ask for the consultant or consultant’s secretary to get in touch with you to discuss if anything that was planned needs to be altered so that they can get a proper look. I mean, there’s always the possibility that the consultant is already aware from your notes so the 3rd ultrasound will be fine - but it’s definitely worth calling to get some reassurance and peace of mind.

Will there be a consultant? There is no name on the letter

Sorry stuff always happens when I am least able to deal with it or make reasoned decisions

Well I went (time got away from me wrt ringing)

I saw a consultant - apparently it's just fat, not a lump of fat just lots of layers in between connective tissue and muscle and it just is - nothing can be done about it, it won't cause any problems - it'll just sit there

So 3 scans and that's it!
