Bleeding between periods, can I use a tampon?

I've had this before. About ten years ago I had bleeding between periods and had a minor op to cauterise cervix.

Now having the same thing. The bleeding is light but I don't want to wear pants/liner overnight. Can I use a tampon?

I have a smear booked in next two weeks, will I also need gp appointment?

I'd make a GP appointment now, and wouldn't risk aggravating anything 'down there' by using a tampon. It probably is a repeat of what you had before, but you won't know until you've seen the GP. Good luck!
