I have a hernia, in the midline (I guess it's paraumbilical as it's about 2in above my navel). Think I've had it since being pregnant with DS2, who's nearly 7, who was a bit of a giant. I didn't realise it was there till I lost 3 stone and then started doing core exercises to reduce my diastasis recti earlier this year. Anyway, GP referred me, I saw the surgeon and finally got date to get it repaired.
Just after experiences of the recovery, mostly, so if you've had this ...
- how long were you in pain?
- how long did you take off work? (I'm having the surgery on a Fri and planning to go back the following Wed, I have a very sedate desk job)
- what was the bruising/swelling like?
- how long till you felt back to normal?
- what's it like now -- scar? is your stomach flat(ish)?
Also, I'm a runner, and I'm curious to know how long I'll need to take off from exercise. Six week/more than this?
Anything else I should know? No idea if I'm having keyhole surgery or getting cut open, just that it's day surgery (I did ask questions when I saw the consultant but was told yesterday it'll be a different chap doing the procedure so don't know if it'll be done differently).
Thanks :)
