IBS & KEFIR

Sorry. Way too much info.

Has anyone tried kefir for IBS with diarrhea symptoms? And if so did you end up constipated? I've gone from one extreme to the other and Im wondering if it's the kefir or something else.

I was on evil antibiotics and i hoped the home made kefir would help counterbalance the effects.

I didn’t have ibs but I’ve started homemade kefir after a mega course of iv and oral antibiotics. Sorry tmi but I had pretty runny stools before and now it’s a more healthy consistency but I’m not constipated. I’ve read it takes a little while for your system to get used to it. I have to say I’m feeling really healthy on it and a lot less bloated.

I love my kefir! I make it myself, milk and water. But it can make you constipated when you first start, definitely. I know the digestive effects Blush vary on whether you've got a fresh batch or an over-fermented batch. I think over-fermented is the constipation one, but best check with Google.
I've been drinking it for 3/4 years and don't get any problems at all now. It's also really helped my elderly dad's digestion, he loves it. Good luck!

Thank you so much for replying. I will persevere. Honestly the stuff I make (live) is pretty vile I think. The dogs and cats won't taste it even. How long does yours have the kefir grains in it. I've been doing 48 hours or more.

Hiya that sounds too long, i ferment mine 24 hours max and I actually really like the taste. It’s takes a bit of getting used to but it shouldn’t really taste unpleasant.
