Ankle plate and pins removal

Had an ankle break 20 years ago- 8 pins and a plate were put in. I’m due to have these removed next week. What can I expect in terms of pain, mobility? What footwear can I wear?

My son had screws and a plate removed from ankle last year.
He was on crutches for 2 weeks and it was slightly painful but he said no where near as bad as when he had broken it.
And they couldn't remove one screw so be aware that they might not be able to remove it all.

I have pins and a plate with eight screws in my ankle, too, after a fracture over two years ago.
I am intrigued as to why you are having yours removed after all this time.
