Ear infection/temperature/antibiotics/won't take fluids.....HELP!

My DS is 6 months old and has a severe ear infection in both ears which has given him a temp of (38.8c). Saw dr who prescribed ammoxicillan (sp?) which is getting the infection under control, Calpol is bring the temperature down but he won't eat/drink, the antibiotics have given him diahorrea and any fluid I do get down him promptly comes back up.

He is quite perky today though and is currently blowing raspberries at me.

Should I worry about the fluid intake or just keep on trying?????

Haven't given him his solids, just been trying milk and water (separately).

I had a worrying time recently where DS wouldn't take any fluids for well over 24hrs! I posted on here and advice I was given was to try ice lollies or a damp flannel that he can suck on to get a little moisture out....

Keep offering and they will take it when they are ready and you will nearly cry with relief - I know I did!

I think the most imp thing atm is fluids...you could try making your own with just water and a tiny bit of orange juice if worried about the colourings etc and you would hold it for him obv so no choking risk etc....

Hope the damp flannel works - keep offering drinks and another thing I did, was lay DS down on a cushion on the floor and put fave TV on..he was so distracted by that, he took a few sips before he realised what he was doing, so at least a few drops went down etc....

also, unless his skin on his tummy does not ping back if you gently pinch it, and his fontanelle is not depressed, and he is not listless , he is probably ok and not dehydrated

He has actually just taken 3oz before he went down. He's prob had about 8oz of fluid overall today and doesn't have te symptoms you mention Lulu.

8oz is good! If you poured that into a glass its a good sized glass of water (I know cos I've done it! )....my DS went over 24hrs with nothing! He woke up at 3am and I sat him on our bed with a wet flannel, frantically trying to get him to suck some moisture out of it. He finally took some fluids when he woke again at 6am and I nearly cried with relief!
