Back pain - can’t lie down

I’ve suffered with a bad back on and off for years, but recently it’s not been too bad. Until Friday, when I made the mistake of sitting and watching 20 minutes of the Royal wedding at my parents house. Seriously, sitting on a different chair was enough to cause painful ‘sciatica’ type pains. They gradually wore off over the day so I was ok to drive home. However, at about 3am I woke in agony, and struggled to get out of bed. I came downstairs and stayed up - was shattered yesterday.

I went to bed at 10 this evening and was up again at 11:30 - in so much pain I thought I was going to be sick. Have got up and am now sat on sofa, with a blanket, about to try to sleep. I feel much more comfortable but I am scared to lie on sofa so am going to sleep sitting up.

Clearly this isn’t normal but would you call OOH doctor tomorrow, or try to last until Monday and hope for an emergency appointment?

If you're in pain try and get an OOH appointment ASAP, no need to be a hero and wait till Monday!

I managed a few hours sleep last night, and it my back feels better although still sore. I am very wary of lying down in case it ‘goes’ again - will sleep sitting on the sofa again.

It needs sorting, but as I’m not in pain now, it feels wrong to call 111. Although they do prioritise calls, don’t they, so they will realise it’s not an urgent thing?
