I've had some sort of an 'episode' during the night, most nights for as long as I can remember. I don't know if they're night terrors or nightmares as they seem to fall somewhere in the middle. According to the NHS a person will not remember a night terror, but I do ( most of the time). But I move around, try to search for things which doesn't seem to fit in with nightmares.
Usually I'll 'see' bugs on the bed or flying around the room and will start screaming and searching for them in the room. This will last a couple of seconds before I wake up and slowly realise there's nothing there. My heart races for a while and eventually I'll drop off to sleep again.
This is inconvenient and annoying to me and my husband.
However things have recently changed. Our 11 month old baby is still in a cot in our room as building work is being undertaken on his. He'll sleep through these terrors if mine most of the time. Now though I'll 'dream' that he's choking. He has a bit of a cold so I've probably heard him cough and incorporated that into a dream that he's choking. So I'll wake up terrified he's choking and will start checking him over frantically as I'm waking up. Last night, I got him out of his cot and had got him over my arm (as I've been trained to do in the event of a baby choking). It was a matter of seconds before I came too and he slept through it. But I was really shook up.
I'm thinking I'm going to have to start sleeping on the settee from now on, starting from tonight. Does anyone else have terrors similar to this? Is there anything I can do to get myself out of these things? I'm not under any pressure at work, nor suffering from stress or anxiety.
Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks
