I'm currently on my 4th outbreak in 4 months.
I've only ever had one outbreak before these and this was the primary infection years ago.
I'm going to the docs later this afternoon to ask to go onto acyclovir daily To try and surpress it, but this outbreak is worse than the last 3 have been (still not as bad as primary) and the only thing that's helping the pain is the emla cream - however there is nothing in the instructions to tell me how often I can safely apply it? The affects are wearing off after about 40 mins!
Please help :(

Hi Thissucks88, I'm afraid I have no experience and can't offer advice but I just wanted to give a handhold instead and salute your bravery in talking about what you're going through. I hope someone can share their experience to help you feel more comfortable and in control, and also hope you get the support you deserve from your GP. Don't give up, you'll get to a better place with this Flowers

Are you stressed or run down? This can trigger outbreaks for me. I take aciclvir daily now to prevent outbreaks as I also get blisters in my throat. I still get the odd breakout but only when I’m run down now.
Have you tried sudacrem? Or you can get instillagel on prescription that works well.
I hope you feel better soon.

I can’t help with any advise I’m afraid, but you don’t need to apologise in your title. Any of us could have caught herpes.
I really hope you get some help from your GP. Sending you a huge get well soon mumsnet hug.

Thanks all for being kind
This really can strike anyone. Been with dh for 14 years (I'm early 30s). A few years ago I got my primary outbreak after being in hospital quite poorly with pleurisy. Tests showed it was the hsv-1 strain (coldsores predominately) But i ended up with it genitally. It also showed it wasn't a recent infection and i could have had it since childhood apparently.
Dh was very understanding thank God, and I was able to move on. But since the arrival of our baby 6 months ago it's been none stop.
Very depressing to be honest.
The doc has agreed to me taking meds daily for the next 3 months and then will review.
Thanks again :)

Mine is also hsv1.
I’m not a mum but can imagine that pregnancy and now the lack of sleep or broken sleep with a 6 month old is taking its toll and your body simply isn’t keeping the virus in check as before if that makes sense?
