Psoriasis 'guttate' DD just dianosed - anyone else have it?

Hi, after weeks of wondering I now have a diagnosis for DD's rash. Went to a dermatologist in Cambridge this week who says it is 'guttate psoriasis'.

I have Vitamin D cream at the moment and he has recommended steroids if it doesn't clear.

Anyone else have it, any magical cures or ideas? Thanks.

Yes! its very rare and heriditary, often bought on by a sore throat bug. the best cure is UV treatment. sea water also helps.

i have flare-ups occasionally but its nowhere near as bad as it was.

Hi, my dd who's 3 was diagnosed with psoriasis last year. It started on her legs and has now spread to her bum and legs.

I was given steriod cream and emoliant and then last week got the vitamin D cream.

How old is your little one?

She is 8. It was a sore throat that started it. We have been recommended sunshine but if you say seawater I think a medicinal holiday is called for!

tbh, it helped me a lot. i had it all over my hands and arms (i was a restaurant manager which didnt help) but a holiday in spain cleared it up beatifully. i have permanent patches on my elbows and knees but nothing like i did have

Will have to try that. Would it work if I put salt in the bath??

There is no cure, although some with some people it does go away on its own. There are tonnes of treatments some more effective than others. DH has had it for nearly 20 years. His is very bad (also has psoriatic arthritis) and he is know on medication he has to inject twice a week.

He has tried everything. UV treatment, coal tar, steroids, herbal, chinese medicine, methotrixate, eradicating tomatoes, citrus fruit and alcohol etc etc.

not sure. its worth trying.

CoV, that sounds awful, he must be in a lot of pain.

I've had psoriasis including guttate psoriasis since I was 6. Can be tricky to sort out as the spots are so small and numerous.

My main way of clearing it when it is bad is to use a regime of coal tar baths, uv light (in the form of exposing all to the sun) and widespread steroid creams. Keep it well moisturised at all times to stop it getting itchy. If she gets it on her scalp then I've found coconut oil is fabby for removing scale and making it more comfy.

Mine is often triggered by a sore throat or strep infection (be careful of imetigo therefore). My dermatologist recommends being quick to use antibiotics if I have a sore throat that isnt obviously a viral one.

I had this following a sore throat. Mainly over my neck and legs. The doctor was quick to give me a course of anti biotics even though the sore throat had resolved a couple of weeks before. The doctor said at the time that is quite offen would just go away on its own and it did after exactly three months as she had predicted. In the mean time the advice I was given was to keep the skin moisturised and to go out and get some sunshine.

Dh had guttate psoriasis a few years ago, from head to toe. It went away on its own eventually, though for some reason persisted longer on his feet and under his watch. It is quite unusual so when dh went to the Dr the Dr asked if he minded all the other GP's coming and having a look.

His actual psoriasis doesn't much bother him nowadays, but he also has psoriatic arthritis, which isn't nice.

My niece had terrible psoriasis from age 3 mths, which was alleviated by PUVA treatment and sunshine.

Seudonim, what does your dh use to treat the arthritis?

COV, he just takes ibuprofen and Co-Dydramol in bad spells. But now he's read something about long-term ibuprofen usage being connected with heart attacks or strokes (I can't remember which) so he's reluctant to even take that.

Whenever he's seen the Dr they seem uninterested and just tell him to take more ibuprofen. I think he needs a referral to the hospital to be properly assessed, because he's losing the use of his hands and fingers. His father was really badly crippled by arthritis but dh can't seem to see himself ever being in that position, whereas I can imagine it all too clearly.
