DS not letting me brush his teeth!

He is just over a year old. He has a proper baby toothbrush but every time I try, he just pushes his tongue out and starts to cry. I'm having to put the toothpaste on my finger and do it that way. I've looked for those finger brushes - they used to have them in Mothercare, but don't seem to do them any more.

Any tips would be much appreciated as I dread doing his teeth now and I'm worried he will get decay if he doesn't start letting me brush them properly. He hardly has any sweets/puds in his diet by the way.

Try giving him the brush to hold so he can get used to the feel in his mouth. You can rub his teeth with toothpaste and a muslin if need be.

Oooh...boots do muslin squares....

I do give him the toothbrush but the little tyke turns it around to the wrong end and procedes to chew on that with much enjoyment! He's not daft my DS!

My son use to protest alot and we had to turn evil and ask if he wanted it nice or nasty. Nice took a longer time but nasty involved holding him down to do it. He learnt very quickly. I sound evil but it wasnt that bad.

oh my dd used to scream so badly I thought I must be scarring her for life! I did the same, just held on tight and brushed the damn things - like everything else it didn't last long and she doesn't bat an eyelid now.
