I know I should already know this after two bigger children but Ds2, 10months spent 3 hours playing with a similar aged baby yesterday. Her mum has rang today to say she has chicken poxs.

How long is it between exposure and getting spots, and how long do they last? Booked to go to Spain 2 weeks on friday please tell me we can still go!

Some people have told me that it is 3 days coming out, 3 days staying where it get worse and 3 days going down. On average, don't know if this is true or not.

Up to
3 weeks to incubate although usually 10-14 days, sorry, and then a minimum of 5 days being contagious.

oh poo! not sounding that great for holiday!

do you think I'd need a doctors note even if he has dried spots?

So what are the chances of him getting them am I right in thinking that the other baby was at the highly contagious stage?

Spots may take anything up to a week before you notice them and depending on how severe the spots are, may take between a week and 10 days before they all crust over, but this should not stop your hols, as it is more contagious before the spots appear. stock up on calamine lotion and you will be fine.

Airline may not take him if spots are evident , even after 5 days and crusted , without a dr note.

From having had chicken pox courtesy of DS last year.

Spots can arrive between 11-21 days after contact (mine arrived on Day 21 just as I thought I'd got away with it). Usually contagious until all the spots have scabbed over.

If DS doesn't come out with spots before we go, would you all risk going and then not being allowed to fly home?

I remember watching airline once and there was a family who couldn't fly home until they got the all clear from the hospital.

Does insurance cover cancellations or staying on due to medical problems?
