Idiopathic slow transit constipation & Right side faecal load

Hi,
Does anyone suffer with (or know someone that does?) "Idiopathic Slow transit constipation" and "Right sided faecal loading".

I have suffered with constipation on and off for many many years - now in my mid 40's and suffering worse than ever.

I'm currently able to poop 1 or 2 X per week. I have been given every laxative, stool softener (and so on) known to man!
They have made little to no difference.

I'm now at my wit's end.

4 days ago I had a colonoscopy - I'm still very painfully bloated from this - any gas that does come out is mucousy and still not pooped since.

For several months prior to my colonoscopy my Consultant changed my diet - limited high fibre foods, no seeds as they stick to your colon walls. Basically I could eat anything that was 'low to no fibre' - this makes no sense to me as it's not a healthy diet and goes against my idea of healthy eating/living.

I've been told to go back to eating normally and to continue using movicol - stool softener and prucalopride to keep things moving. I hate taking medications - especially when they're making no difference.

Has anyone else suffered with this? Have you been able to treat this yourself with diet alone?

Thanks for reading X

No advice to give really, just offering sympathy and to say that "ideopathic" is doctor speak for "it's happening and we don't know why". So you haven't really got a diagnosis at all to work from. Keep going back to your doctors and consultants and insist they work it out.

You will almost certainly have to buckle down and try meds though - and don't lie about whether you're taking them or not to the docs, or they'll be thinking in the wrong direction. Good luck!

Chronic sufferer here... I have been on just about every laxative there is. My bowels were never good but after 4 children and mild prolapses (bowel bladder and womb..lucky me) my bowels quit!

For me the best approach is a combo of oral laxative and glycerine suppository (you can by them otc but mine are on permanent prescription) Without a suppository I do not poo. Ever. My lower bowel just holds it with no urge to go. Stool softeners just fill me with soft poo that still doesn't come out!

I find breakfast..then 20 mins later a coffee and suppository (lying on my left side) usually does the job. Also low fibre... too much just bloats me and doesn't help the slow transit one bit. I'm also on Manevac (a senna /Isphigula husk combo) but the suppository is what keeps me going.

You have my sympathy... I have such envy for people who can just GO!

Thank you StillMedusa,
It's awful isn't it!

I'm fed up with it and have poo envy who can go on a daily basis!

What is frustrating is that we are constantly told to eat 'high fibre' to keep your bowels working efficiently, but in this case it's not true.

I was advised a few years ago to take flax seeds (golden linseeds) while on a health kick - but seeds stick to your colon and cause terrible problems!

I'm so fed up with this.
Xx
