Excema - hydrocortisone cream on a 9 month old??

DS has developed what looks like excema on his face (as well as inside elbows and knees). DD who's 3 has it in cold weather and we have some hydrocortisone cream. I put some on DS and things seem to be improving but now I'm worried that maybe I shouldn't be putting it on a 9mo.

BTW I think it started with either the suncream or wipes... Can anyone recommend a good suncream for children with excema??

i have used hydrocortisone cream on my son who also has excema. health visitor recommened it but not to use it everyday.i mainly use doublebase, prescribed by doctor and hydrocortisone if his skin is especially bad. as for suncream i use boots soltan range, he seems fine with it.

its fine, i was prescibed it for my DS at about 6 months - i hardly use it - just when it gets really bad.

You should only use the lower strength stuff on the face - 0.5% I think

I had 0.5% for dd1 for mild eczema - best tip, use it straightaway (as well as moisturizing the skin) rather than let the eczema take hold. You'll end up using less of it.

She now has 1%, for occasional flare ups, but she's 3.5....dd2, who is 6 months, has the 0.5%.

i was prescribed it for ds1 at a similar age but only used it to put under suncream on his face, and stopped using wipes altogether

my dd has it too, and sun creams do flare it up i get e45 sun block from the doctors, and she has no problem with it. hope this helps

DS has just been prescribed it..and he's 17 weeks old...IMO if it works then use it.

It only causes problems when a high % is used and its used everyday and to much is applied.

0.5% is what ds has and its applied x2 a day when its bad and only for around 1-2 days when it clears up..When it starts up again I use it again in the same way...

I was advised to add the hydrocortisone first then moisture creams ontop...

I have gone through various creams inc doublebase and am now sampling dermol..Looking good atm.
