sudden itchy scalp and neck

Has anyone had this? Suddenly last week my scalp became really itchy but it's also affecting the back of my neck and where my neck meets my shoulders. There's nothing to see although I can't really see the affected areas very well.

I've never had dandruff or anything - I bought some Nizorelle shampoo in case that would help but it's not making any difference.

Also tried some anti-histimines today but still nothing helping. No new shampoo, no new soap, nothing to explain it.

any thoughts?

Nits?

forgot to say, don't think it's nits! Got my sister, the nit veteran, to check my hair on Saturday and she couldn't find anything. Plus had not been with anyone likely to have nits (ie, my nephews ) for several weeks. Daughter only 8 months and barely any hair so def no nits there.

Best way to check for nits is to use a fine tooth comb. Weirdly I had them recently for 1st time in my life but the dds haven't. Must have picked them up at work and couldn't believe how itchy they made me.

eech - so it could be nits even if you can't see anything? OK. So what is the preferred nit treatment these days? Will creep into Boots tomorrow to ask.
