Immune System boosters/cold

I had a cold last weekend, really bad cough which has gradually got better as the week went on. But yesterday I felt it coming back, sore throat and a tickly cough - very little sleep. I need to get rid of this unwanted guest ASAP - what can I do/take to get rid of the cough?

Also, have you successfully boosted your immune system before? How?

I take a multivitamin, high dose of Vit c, vit d spray. I also used First Defence religiously at the start of all this last weekend but it did not stop the cold.

It's difficult to measure your immune system, I do the same as you and wash my hands a lot, but I will still get a cold from time to time.

But to the cough bit, which is the worst bit for me because it seems to go on for about 3 weeks after the initial cold...Drs have told me to take my asthma medicine for the cough but it doesn't work, so I don't bother.
Last time I had a cold I made sure I kept taking paracetamol plus I found that the Sudafed congestion relief helped the cough, it didn't go on for weeks and it wasn't so dramatic either.
I got the idea of using the spray from a nurse who said the cough is possibly the result of a nasal drip in the throat. I take prevalin daily but the Sudafed for when I have a cold.

My cough always goes through stages. Tickly in throat and roof of mouth, side of tongue then becomes a mucus cough, then moves further down and becomes chesty. My cough followed this pattern as normal last week, but now the cough has returned as stage 1 - i.e tickly. I want to stop it at stage 1 if possible.

I have just ordered Echinecea drops from Amazon. Seem to get good reviews as an immune system booster. I think I will take them from now until spring. Anybody take these and were they effective at staving off colds? I think you need to take them before a cold so I doubt they will assist me in my present cold.
