Right here goes so I woke up through the night in sever pain in my right side I was going to go to hospital as am 20 weeks pregnant and didn't want any to take the chance but it started easing off so in the morning I made an emergency app for the doctor so he had a feel around my stomach and said womb and baby feel fine he said it feels like you have a floating rib and it's became inflamed but must be calming down since the pain has lessened. He said if the pain keeps up or I still feel uneasy about it I should see the midwife and that was it. Now am sitting here thinking what on Earth is a floating rib and how does this affect me? And is it going to get worse through out my pregnancy?

If anyone knows anything about this please let me know and help put my mind at easy and thanks for taking the time to read this x

Basically, the bottom two sets of everybody's ribs are not attached directly to the breastbone so they're knownn as floating. It's possible to stub the end of them like you'd stub your toe, usually from some kind of fall or trauma. It possibly just got shifted about a bit due to your belly.
