Intertrigo

I spent the summer in Spain wearing bikini / swimming costumes then bandeau dresses with no bra. As a result, I have intertrigo under one breast. It started as a rash, but now feels as if he skin is tearing open if I lift my boob up. It’s not tearing, but it feels like it!

Applied some Canestan last night, but it feels very damp under there this morning, so not sure how much good it will do,

Has anyone successfully treated this at home? Had a quick search of the internet to find some pads to put under there, but couldn’t. Will some cotton gauze under my bra do the trick?

Have a look in the mirror so you can see properly. If it is fungal, the rings are quite distinctive and should clear up with canestan. Pharmacists can usually help with things like rashes, rather than needing to see a GP.

If its impetigo, you need to see a gp immediately for antibiotics. It's not dangerous but it will spread very quickly and is hideously contagious. You're not really meant to be out and about until you've had antibiotics for, I think. 24 hours. Could be 48 hours.

Intertrigo, not impetigo.

Sorry OP, that wasn’t useful to you Grin. Was aimed at the PP.
If it’s fungal it will clear up with canesten. But as a PP says a pharmacist should be able to take a look and advise.

I’ll give the canestan a couple of days to work it’s magic and I’m wearing a cotton bra.

I think those comfort bras also have a hand in this! I wear them in the evening after work but they do make you quite warm in that area! Cotton bra for me today and I’ll nip to a chemist later to see if they have any pads / gauze I can use as a barrier.

I know all about impetigo - I work in a school. Kids are instantly sent home!

I used the Daktarin powder when I had it. It cleared up in a few days.

I suffered from this a couple of years ago, in the end I found that applying diluted tea tree oil and using tea tree soap (which is fungicidal) made a big difference. You can also try athlete's foot powder to keep it dry, that helps too.

There is an ointment called Timodine which clears intertrigo very quickly. I get it on prescription but it may be available OTC.
