Dry socket, again?! 😭

I had a molar removed surgically a little over a week ago. Four days in I went back due to increasing amounts of pain. They cleaned out the wound and packed it with mesh. It didn't give instant relief but it helped. I also started on a course of amoxicillin that day.

Five days on the pain in that area is increasing again. The pain is radiating in the other teeth, jaw and neck mostly on the side of the extraction. I'm going to book an appointment with my normal dentist tomorrow - but any ideas about what is going on? TIA!

Do you smoke? That could cause a dry socket. Also, rinsing out is a no no, it can dislodge the blood clot and cause an infection. Unfortunately sometimes it can take time to settle & the dentist may give you a different antibiotic. ( dental nurse here).
Good luck tomorrow & keep going with paracetamol.

Thanks for the quick reply. Definitely not a smoker (and have avoided straws and soup since the surgery). Have been holding cortisol over the area so not really rinsing as such.

Thanks for replying so quickly!

No advice but watching with interest as I’m in a similar position following wisdom teeth removal.

You might need it repacking. I had to have mine done every other day, then I'd top it up with clove oil. See if they'll let you pop in tomorrow. It should be healed over soon. Mine would take about 14 days from extraction.
