Folate is 5: is this ok?

Hi. My folate is 5. It's gone down from 8. Is this ok? Would I have any symptoms at this level. I get very breathless but it's always put down to anxiety.

Do I just take folic acid? I read that an adult should take 1000mg a day, is this right?

my Labs reference rage is if it's above 3 it's normal. Speak to dr if you are concerned

The best way to rise your folate is by eating dark green veggies, red lentils and grounded flaxseed.
Please be also aware that folic acid and folate are not the same thing.
Watch this video which explains it very well nutritionfacts.org/video/can-folic-acid-be-harmful/

What are your B12 and iron level?

Whatsthispain · 15/09/2018 11:22

Thank you. I've managed to get my b12 up from 220 to 367. My ferritin is up from 47 to 114. I just noticed that my serum folate was down from 9 to 5. The range is 3.90 to 26.80. I just wondered if this should be higher? Or if it would create any symptoms?

My serum tsh is down to 1. I guess I'm always looking for a reason to explain my anxiety which came on quite suddenly last year.

I believe you should be supplementing folate/ folic acid if you are taking B12- I think the B12 uses up folate somehow. I am no expert though- try HealthUnlocked- they are v knowledgeable over there
