When do I take slow release propranolol for performance anxiety

I have used propranolol in the past for presentations etc and it worked brilliantly. Taken 1 hour before my presentation all was great.

I have a presentation at 4pm and have been prescribed 80mg slow release. I’m wondering when to take it. Worried I take it too late and it’s not released into my system in time and I’m a bag of nerves. Also worried I take it too early and it’s released too quickly and out my system by 4pm and I’m also a bag of nerves.

Anyone know?

I think it's the same op, up to an hour for it to kick in.

Why not take one and see? Your doctor should have advised though.

Thanks, I’m just confused about the slow release part and wondering whether this feature will delay it being absorbed into my system.

He advised to take one before bed and one today. I took one before bed and didn’t feel any different but of course it wouldn’t have any affect as I’m not under pressure to perform so I actually don’t know if it has worked until the time to perform comes and then I either remain calm and collected or a trembling, shaking hyperventilating mess Blush

I think the slow release stuff just keeps a steady stream of it in your system for longer. Why don't you call the doctors and ask to speak to them? Why did they change you to slow release when it's for performance anxiety?

I take it and have done for years, but only for big presentations ie in front of 250 people kind of thing, I was fairly sure my career was over as I was turning into a nervous wreck. Now I rock them. But I don't suffer anxiety as such, so don't need it in my system for anything other than that period, I just take one as and when. I have the 40 mg, and my doctor said there was basically nothing in them. They just repeat the prescription when I run out.

I'd assume the doctor thought you needed it over a longer period than a one off presentation?

I take it for a tremor so bit different but if i take it 80mg sr im fairly good for 12-15 hours.

I went yesterday for the first tome in years and he just said he’d give me the slow release one. I took it about 4 hours before. I was nervous but thankfully no trembling and able to talk confidently. Phew!

Oh I loved that stuff. It was explained to me that it was a gradual all day release, I used to take it in the mornings to deal with work related anxiety which could be all day but probably worse first thing.
