Spine surgery

I'm currently awaiting surgery on my spine.
I've had an appointment with my surgeon who said it'll be a 6 hour surgery where I'll get rods and pins in the base of my spine due to the curvature and degenerative disc disease.
She called 2 weeks ago and requested I went for a ct scan for her to know how far up my spine she needs to go, appointment was the next day. 2 days later I had my pre op assessment.
When she called she said the surgery would be the 14th, 21st, or 28th September.
The closer it's getting the more nervous I am, i just want to be pain free though and be able to enjoy my live again instead of planning where I go around where I'll get a seat to ease the sciatic pain.
Has anyone had this operation?
How quickly was your recovery?
(I know everyone is different, I'm just looking for estimates, the surgeon said anything from 6-12 weeks)
How quick was the relief of the trapped nerve pain?
I have so many questions to ask.
