6 mo with cold - please reassure me she won't choke in her sleep!

My 6 mo DD has her first cold and is periodically coughing and choking on phlegm while she sleeps on her back. She can't roll over or sit up by herself. Mostly its a quick cough and straight back to sleep, but she's had a couple of prolonged episodes with retching. Needless to say I'm leaping out of bed at every snuffle and getting pretty exhausted!

I'm using children's olbas oil which helps but don't want to overdo it - is there anything else I can do and could all you veterans reassure me she can cope with this without me snatching her out of her bed in a panic at every cough!

prop up the cot mattress a little so she is raised, or put some books under the cot legs at the back. helps mucus drain away....snuffle babe on her back and chest, and use saline nasal drops before feeding...and try not to worry

squirt a bit of saline up her nostrils, this helps loosen the phlegm to clear her nose. Also you can raise the head end of her bed slightly.

Try not to worry, she'll be fine.

Agree with Lulu, perhaps some drops of carvol on some cotton wool hung near her, but out of reach.

Also maybe try some medised, drys it up. I use it for ds1 at night when he has a cold. The added bonus of helping them sleep too

She'll be fine, like everyone has said, raise the hed end of the cot to help the mucus drain.

I usually hate gimicky crud, but I found the plug-in Karvol thingy fab. It really helped ds, and worked for longer than the drops.

Thanks everyone, I'll give those things a try and stop flapping

She'll be fine - especially with all the advice below! But congratulations on getting to 6 months without a cold! We made it to 7 weeks!
