Think I have got one of these - about to get an MRI but I am pretty sure this is what it is...anyone else and what treatment did you have if so? Thanks

Can I ask what your symptoms are as I think I may have the same, am currently waiting to see the orthopedic specialists. I've got pain in my neck and nerve pain all through my left arm....

bestbefore · 06/09/2018 22:43

Hi - I don't have much pain in my neck but have intermittent pins and needles down my arm to thumb and forefinger. Left hand side too....it's not hugely painful for me but it's annoying and causes discomfort.
How did you do yours?

Carrying something heavy on my shoulder 😕 I feel like I have constant cramp in my left arm as well as a dull ache in the back of my neck. It's very wearing, have been signed off this week but will need to go back next week.

How about you? Have you tried anything that's helped?

bestbefore · 07/09/2018 11:31

I fell and banged the back of my head and shoulders (ouch).
I have had acupuncture, physio, ibuprofen, nothing helps....MRI tomorrow and then I guess will see consultant again...dreading any talk of an op. Sad. We will see.
I can function day to day but can't put weight on it during exercise and it was triggered on hols by doing lady swimming...

I'm in the same boat! I've tried naproxen (helped a tiny bit but played my stomach up) heat, rest, gentle exercise etc have a massage booked for sunday so hoping that might help a bit....

Fed up with it really.

I think I'll be sent for an mri as well and likewise dread being told I need an op 😣

Girliefriendlikesflowers · 07/09/2018 13:24

I also saw an osteopath which cost a fortune and did nothing!

IWantMyHatBack · 07/09/2018 13:29

Are you on amitriptyline or gabapentin for the nerve pain? It's much better than anti-inflammatories alone.

Treatment wise, it was just physio and time. Surgery was the next route but it was considered too drastic a step.

IWantMyHatBack · 07/09/2018 13:31

I would strongly advise avoiding chiro/massage until you've had a proper assessment/diagnosis. My physio (who actually made a huge difference) expressly told me not to go to one. The only chiro appointment I had made it significantly worse for weeks.

If you can't tolerate Naproxen, try taking omeprazole

Girliefriendlikesflowers · 07/09/2018 13:37

iwant I was on omeprazole as well but still ended up with stomach cramps, the massage I've got booked is a very gentle one and I will tell her to be gentle. Agree the osteopath didn't help and actually made it worse.

I have a px for amitriptyline but am reluctant to take it as have had severe side effects to anti depressants in the past...

IWantMyHatBack · 07/09/2018 13:49

Fair enough, some people just can't tolerate Naproxen. Shame diclofenac isn't as widely prescribed these days, it's a great anti inflammatory.
Actually, voltarol gel really helps, that might be worth trying.

I was worried about ami as well, I have worrying reactions to SSRIs, but luckily I'm fine on ami (and sleep better than I have in years)

bestbefore · 07/09/2018 16:10

I haven't been offered any amitriptyline yet - have had it in the past for a trapped nerve in the other side of my neck. I had blood tests too which were all clear except for slightly low potassium.

Hi best before

Did you get your MRI?

bestbefore · 25/11/2018 09:27

Hi..thanks for asking. Yes I did. It showed definite movement with the disc touching the nerve. Quite scary actually. Consultant thought it was wear and tear rather than an accident - I am not sure, as I did fall and bang my head/ neck. Anyway..since then I have had more physio which has helped and also has also amitriptyline and diclofenac (which knocked me out at night and made me feel bloated Confused).
Anyway the upshot is that the neck is a lot better now. Not perfect but more liveable with.
How's you?

I've just been referred to the local spine and pain clinic for assessment. Been suffering for a couple of years with what I thought was a dodgy shoulder. Started physio in February and not sure it's helped it really. Turns out neck and spine and get a problem with my arm/s and occasionally foot/leg so perhaps some nerve problem.
