Can the Pill make you anxious?

Hi all, didn't really know where to post this one. Can the pill make you feel anxious and moody? I've been on Yasmin for a while on and off but recently I've noticed that I just don't feel myself at all. I'm anxious all the time, snappy with my DP, family and friends, having horrible nightmares and the other day had a really intense panic attack out of nowhere.

Does anyone have experience of this? Or of feeling better once coming off it?

I have had this in every hormonal contraceptive I’ve tried. Had to stop in the end

Really, it's so strange isn't it. I think I'm going to come off to test the theory!

I had this on the combined Pill and the mini-Pill. Awful.

I really think it does. I was on the pill for 16 years and was definitely feeling terribly anxious in general. I decided to come off the pill last year as getting older and they kept mentioning the coil and my age. Wow, I feel so much better and more confident which is a real surprise. Really happy I have come off it now. I wont say I had any other problems with it. Dp said many a comment like he found me better on it Shock but now way! Maybe we have had a few more disagreements since because of my new found me. I feel fine and confident and more independent. Probably less of a walkover. Now I wish I was off it a long time ago.

Yep, there has been research the pill is linked with depression I think.

I feel awful on hormonal contraception. Just can’t handle feeling so low, plus it kills my sex drive. Probably very effective at its job in that case!

Hated the pill, I put on weight and felt anxious and stressed.
The implant I have now is a massive improvement. x

Yes, I've pretty much decided I can't take the pill any more. Depression, anxiety and no libido. Doc said it was normal with hormonal contraception. Looking into getting a copper coil soon.

@Impulsesealer that made me laugh because it's so true! That's why it works as a contraceptive cus I never want sex anymore!

Sad to hear that it has made PPs feel down but relieved it's not all in my head. I took my last pill a couple of days ago and have decided that I'm not going to start my next one

I've just stopped taking the mini pill. Month 1 ok was fine, no change, felt ok despite the horror stories. By month 4 I felt utterly depressed, paranoid, angry, and my sex drive was non existent. I stopped it a few days ago.

Girliefriendlikesflowers · 06/09/2018 21:37

Yes I had terrible anxiety and constant nausea while on the pill, was awful.

I also had depression on the pill (and it took me 14 yrs to see the connection 🤦🏼‍♀️).

Here's a link to an article summarising some research on the pill and mental health:
