Being given run around at doctors

I have been in a lot of pain since December. Doctors initially thought kidney stones so I've had tons of testing for it and it's come back negative and sent back to the gp. Ended up in a and e as the pain got worse and found a lump which turned out to be a hernia. Now I am trying to get my gp to refer me to get an ultrasound so I can get this treated. They initially sent the referral that got rejected as they got it wrong. It has taken me over a week speaking to receptionists daily to get an email sent to the doctor to refer correctly. It finally went to the doctor last Thursday and is still not done. The medical secretary has said they will mark it as urgent but with no times scales. I'm not allowed to make a complaint over the phone or in person and have done one last Thursday via email (not received a response to that yet). It's getting me very stressed and down. Along with a lot of pain and a toddler. Anyone else has anything similar or any advice on how to proceed?

I have had similar for almost 2 years on

Why aren't you allowed to make a complaint? Of course you are.

Have you spoken to the practice manager? He/she should be able to speed it up

penguinsnpandas · 04/09/2018 13:03

NHS but I did complaint and they refused to accept it said I had to call PALS, they don't answer phone. Gone private via work but shouldn't have to. Had one charming NHS GP saying the NHS really doesn't take you seriously and now left too ill to work. Great. Private helped for speeding up certain tests cut wait for cancer tests due to bleeding down but its looking like Lyme and private aren't much better for that. Looks like 50 percent get treated 50 percent left ill. Just want to cry or go online and order treatment. Been very ill for a year now. Still have friend who is dead as they missed his so could be worse.

Could you go down to the practice and refuse to leave until it is sent (with a back up printed copy in your hand). Its terrible that you have to even consider making such a fuss for something that should be straightforward.

Thank you all for your reply's. It's silly. I also have a arm op in a few weeks time so if they find something from the ultrasound I won't get an op to fix it for at least three months. I'm giving them to the close of business today then will be heading to the GPs with my toddler in tow tomorrow morning and speak to the practice manager (not that I ever have done through all of this) I've sent a complaint last Thursday via email to the practice but I should have had a response today. So I will also take the complaint to the next level. Just feel so let down and depressed. I can't have sex, can barely look after my toddler and just in pain all the time. Just given some paracetamol, ibuprofen and a bit of codene but told not to take it.

I've been waiting a year for hernia surgery, the pain is manageable but I've been prescribed (and needed) codeine the entire time. I get ill if I miss a dose so I know I'm addicted and will need weaning off.

It's the sickness I can't cope with, I'm down three stone in four months and I've ended up in a+e twice once in an ambulance as I managed to know myself out due to collapsing.

I'm trying not to twist as I know a hernia isn't life threatening and people have it much worse but my quality of life has gone down hill and I'm a bit miserable.

Pandamodium I feel for you. I feel the same. It's getting much worse and not manageable by tablets anymore. They had me on cocodamal which a and e took me off of.now on codeine I showed my husband this thread and he has decided to get me to a private gp, testing and operation. It's going to hurt us but in his words you can't live in pain forever (since I already have for most of my adult life) I'm very lucky that we can afford to go private (financed) I have an appointment tomorrow with a private gp attached to a hospital which will do the testing and operation. This also comes after the receptionists called me back and since I had a recent ultrasound for kidney stones they do not want to do another. (This is a different doctor the main one) so I have to try and get a gp appointment to get testing anyway. I'm in tears over the lack of caring. I'm just thankful I have a fantastic husband and family.
