Difficulty Swallowing

Firstly, get your mind out of the gutter if that’s why you opened this thread ;) It’s not THAT kind of thread!

Over the last year or so, I’ve (sporadically) had issues with swallowing saliva. At times, I’ve had to pus my larynx in order to do so or move my head to the side. But lately things have got worse and I’ve just had a period of about six weeks where swallowing food has become a big issue. Literally feel like I don’t have enough saliva to swallow, chew food until it’s mush and then have to swallow really hard in order for it to go down and still struggle. All the while paranoid and stressed about choking. During this period, it could take an hour to eat a small bowl of food and I turned down meals out and ate in the bedroom on my own. It took four weeks to get an appointment with the GP but I finally went today and she thought that the left-side of my throat was swollen and is sending me for a blood test for thyroid and a camera down the throat that will happen within the next fortnight. I have googled (big mistake) and the speed of consultation worries me. The form the GP completed had a subject of cancer but she did reference it and said that was to ensure a speedy appointment and not to worry. But of course I am.

Has anyone else experienced similar please? I know every case is different but any advice would be appreciated.
