Regular urinary tract infections

Hi everyone, sorry of this is tmi but I suffer from horrendous urinary tract infections and have done for years. Horrendous as in painful but thankfully they have always cleared up with antibiotics from the GP. I've been seen by a specialist and they couldn't find anything. The thing is they are basically after I've had sex. We do the whole having a wee afterwards and basically now try to be practically sterile. Takes the fun out of it but the pain is quite debilitating at times when an infection kicks in.

Has anyone else ever had this? Does anyone have any advice whatsoever? Even just to manage the immediate symptoms because I can't find any relief.

Thank you x

A friend of mine with exact same swears by dmannose

Ohyesiam · 30/08/2018 23:24

Yes , get Mannose D . It stopped my friend’s life long suffering.
Chemists or amazon.

If it just occurs after sex then your GP could give you preventative antibiotics to take for day or two after sex. If your GP isn't willing, it might be worth seeing a UTI specialist who can then recommend this to your GP.

Thanks everyone. I will look into the d mannose and if that doesn't work then back to the urologist.

Total sympathy I’m just over kidney and bladder infection 74 which ive had for 7 weeks.I’ve been also diagnosed with ic(painfull bladder syndrome)

I take daily preventative antibiotics and they do the trick for me (I’m nearly 40 now and have taken them since I was 14). On the odd occasion it takes hold before the antibiotics kick in properly I’ve been able to up my dose to 3 a day and keep it under control. It’s worth seeing a urologist if it persists.

I have recurrent UTIs and take 100mg nitrofuratonin (antibiotic) nightly, Hiprex (urinary disinfectant) twice a day.
I take Co - Amoxiclav for 3 days after intercourse.
We both shower before and after, I drink a pint of water before and after and wee after.
Now symptom free.

I also have this, although thankfully it is not every time I have sex, but definitely if penetrative sex goes on for a longish time, or is relatively vigorous, particular positions, or certain types of lube. I have had an ultrasound to see if there is anything physical causing it (there isn’t) which might be worth asking for. In terms of managing symptoms I usually alternate paracetamol and ibroprofen, and have a hot water bottle between my legs at night, but still generally spend nights pacing around, or lying in front of the TV to take my mind off it.

lovemy- I am dubious IC exists- you probably have an embedded infection.
