What could this be?

My hubby has been complaining of his skin hurting inside (?!). It's like the other side of his skin. He says it feels like it is grazed/sore. He been mentioning it for over 6 months around his hip and now feels like it down his thigh, around his pelvis front and back and down his knee.

I've asked if it feels like it's in the bone or muscular and he just says it's hard to explain. He feels like it's been scraped on a wall. It's not dry skin and it's quite painful at times.

Any ideas? I've been asking him to go to the dr.

I'm sorry, didn't want to read and run but not many suggestions.
Could it be possible nerve damage?

downinthejunglee · 27/08/2018 23:22

Or a trapped nerve?

uncomfortablydumb53 · 27/08/2018 23:45

I think trapped nerve also

Giraffe5 · 28/08/2018 00:22

Possibly. I'm no expert at all. Would a trapped nerve feel like it is moving from an uncomfortable pain from his thigh one hour to his knee the next hour? I keep asking him and he'll say 'it feels like it's in my back and knee' then it's moved to his thigh and hip.

Thanks for taking time to reply.

Yes the pain often shifts, it can shift downwards, usually ending at the ankle.. or if another nerve is involved shift towards the back and up into the neck and shoulder on the same side
There are specialist nerve painkillers such as Pregabilin and Gabapentin which are very effective
Hope he finds some relief soon

Is it all on one side? Sounds like the pain of shingles although mine was on my torso more.

Giraffe5 · 29/08/2018 23:58

Shingles really? Just googled it and he has no rash. He's had it for over 6 months but is feeling it a lot at the moment. I think his knee is slightly swollen too. He's very fit and has a very physical job so it's effecting him at the moment.

sounds like sciatica. my exDP had a herniated disc which caused this, and he could never properly describe the pain.

i think its worth asking the GP for an MRI referral to check his spine and also refer to physio in the meantime.

if it isnt sciatica it might be femoral nerve entrapment or irritation, which a physio could also help

esk1mo · 30/08/2018 01:01

also with my exDP his pain would move. from his low back, to buttocks, down leg, knee and even reach his big toe. numbness one day, stabbing pain the next, shooting pain, tingling, soreness, every kind of feeling.

if you google “sciatica” you should find more info.

gamerchick · 30/08/2018 01:07

He needs to go to the GP. If he refuses then tell him to stop complaining about it, it usually shifts them into action. He shouldn't self diagnose in case it's something that could completely incapacitate him at some point.
