How long should it take for a sprained ankle/foot to heal in a 3.9yo?

DD fell off the bed ten days ago and hurt her foot. She couldn't walk on it so the next day we took her to A&E where they x-rayed and confirmed nothing was broken. She didn't walk on it for another two days. She can now walk about on it but is still limping. She managed to walk to school (where she goes to nursery am's) and then to school and back in the afternoon yesterday, so assumed it was getting better. However today she has been complaining that it hurt again and we have resorted to borrowing a pushchair. My question is, should we expect her to be able to walk properly by now and at what point should we see the GP or whatever if she doesn't start walking properly? thanks

My dd fell off the climbing frame at school a couple of weeks ago (she is 7). We took her to A & E and they x-rayed it and said it wasn't broken, but there was a lot of swelling, the doctor said she should rest it and avoid going to her dancing classes for about a week. Within a couple of days she was walking on it but it still hurt, within 4 days is was back to normal. I think if it has been 10 days I would take her to the GP.

When ds2 was 5 he sprained an ankle badly; can't remember exactly but I think it was 2 months before he could walk on it. Again, x-rays showed no break.
No harm going to your gp, though. Hope she's feeling better soon.

my DS, who was 2 at the time, started to limp after an afternoon at an adventure playground.

We took him to the docs and A&E - they couldn't find where he was hurt and thought it was his hip- he had an ultrasound and blood tests which showed nothing.

It was a good 5 weeks before he stopped limping- we finally figured that he had strained the outside of his ankle as it was tender when we proessed it. At the time I was so worried cos I thought he would limp forever!

Thanks guys. She told me today she could run (and demonstrated a weird limping run!) and said she would walk all the way to school. In reality she walked about 1/4 of the way. I think I just need to build her up gradually to walking the full distance. Although having a pushchair back is a pain in that because it's there she wants to use it. Thought I'd given up the pushchair for good!
