Ruptured discs - never improve?

whattimeislove · 24/08/2018 21:48

I have a ruptured disc, saw the MRI scan at hospital today and it looks pretty squashed. Dr says they don't repair, it won't bounce back.

I'm starting the slow journey to recovery - physio, Pilates, low impact exercise. I'd started running last year and have been told that I should leave that off for 6-12m minimum.

I had this a few years ago and it did get better, but this time it's worse.

Has anyone experienced similar who can tell me how they've recovered/prevented a relapse? I'm feeling a bit down about it all tbh.

I had sciatica on and off for years, then Jan last year started again and it felt different
Turned out to be a herniated disc. I had surgery on it, because the herniation was so massive and I got cauda equina
I still get a lot of back pain but no leg pain at all now

I have one - have had back problems for 15 years, then suddenly a few years ago it got very bad for about 2 months, then righted itself with physio. Has been stable for several years (some back pain, but generally manageable with painkillers). I think it's come back as I've been in agony on and off for 6 weeks... it gets a bit better, then I think I'm ok and do something rash like empty the dishwasher, and it comes back.

Anyway I have an appt with a spinal specialist next week, partly because I have hip pain as well that they don't know the source of (not NHS!). Will report back if anyone's interested.

@TROUBLEDMAM I read your thread, I'm so sorry you're still waiting. Can you go to PALS?

I agree the timing with the school holidays has been pretty bad. We didn't have a holiday booked but had lots of plans.

I feel really down as I just don't want to go through this again, plus I'm sad as running was something I was enjoying but now I can't do it for a long time. I'm also not sure how this is playing out at work while I'm away.
