The Canadian 5 in 1 Vaccine - Information

Sorry I haven't provided this earlier - going through a major pregnancy lazy arse phase!

The 5 in 1 vaccine over here is called PENTACEL and is made by Aventis.

Preservative is 2-phenoxyethanol, the main ingredient in Canadian anti-freeze.

The new preservative replaced Thimerosal AFTER the drug license was granted because Thimerosal interfered with the new inactivated Polio vaccine.

Adverse reactions in the first 72 hours are down but up after 10-12 days.

The web site below says that parents are finding it hard to get docotors to report adverse events.

across Canada - one of the few things that doesn't differ between provinces!

Don't know about anyone else, but I do feel very anxious about injecting my baby with anit-freeze!

I WISH the vaccines were sterile and not in multi-use vials.

When I was wondering whether to vaccinate ds2 I talked to my doctor about my fears about thimerosil and the link to autism (this was in 2002 btw). I wasn't taken very seriously as although I knew ds1 was autistic he hadn't been diagnosed (was still on a waiting list). Anyway the GP said to me that there was no point getting thimerosil free vaccinations as they would only have to replace the mercury with something equally dodgy I think that might have been the moment I decided not to vaccinate at all

One thing to check though is that mercury is a known neurotoxin. Antifreeze probably isn't - no idea (may be carcinogenic or something though!)
