Hi,

I've just had results from a blood test back and the doctor has prescribed D3 20,000unit capsules to be taken daily for 5 days then maintenance over the counter tablets for the rest of the year. I've been reading around and this seems like a very high dose. Has anyone been prescribed this in the past?

Yes it’s normal if our vitamin d levels are very low. It gets it back to a normal level much quicker, so you’ll be feeling better soon!

normal for a loading dose
maintenance dose should be 1000 iu a day.
sublingual/spray is better than tablets.

I hope you feel better soon!

yes even 3x 20000 is fine.

it's very difficult to overdose on vit d3.

make sure you take (via diet) enough magnesium and calcium as that helps your body store the vit d3

That’s what I was prescribed when my vitD went through the floor.

Thank you for your replies! I just got a bit worried because I couldn't find anyone else online who'd been prescribed that.

I really hope this helps as I've been feeling like a Zombie.

Good GP understands the need to load you up for quickest improvement. A GP friend recommends the Holland and Barrett sub lingual spray Vit D once a week for maintenance.
