Anyone take tranaxamic acid? Question re dosage.

Evening!

4 months ago I was prescribed it for heavy periods because I was severely aneamic.

4 months of iron and T acid my count is normal again.

However I don't think my periods are normal yet and wonder if I'm taking it wrong?

I start with the 2x4 a day from the start of my period.
I take it for 3 days.

Usual routine of period was day 1 light, 48 hours of sheer hell heavy bleeding and 2-3 of light bleeding.

On T acid I have 3 days of bearable. Then I stop taking it as day 4 I rarely have anything so no need imo?

However the past 2 months day 4 has been its usual lightness and then suddenly I have a massive bleed - it's instant and in one go. It'll flood a pad and I have a huge clot of 5cm ish in diameter.

It catches me out every time because no pad or tampon will stop it.

Should I take the T acid for 4 days or is that likely to delay this massive bleed? Should I be taking it when I'm really light?

TIA

Omg (tmi - sorry).

It's just happened again with another clot the size of a tennis ball.

I swear it can't be good for me losing all this?

I take tranxaemic acid and mefanamic acid together. 3 times a day though (with meals) rather than 4. I do still have heavy periods with clots but significantly more manegable than before (when I had to change super plus tampons during the night).

I’d see the doctor if I were you I think as there’s been a significant change in your periods.

My doctor told me menafamic acid has been withdrawn in the UK & gave me naproxen instead - so I take 2x tablets of Tranexemic plus 1x naproxen every 8 hours (so three times in 24 hours) for 4 days from day 1 of my period.

(TMI warning...) It definitely makes a difference & the horrendous clots have minimised - plus the flooding - inevitably happened on the way to a school run or similar- where you can’t turn back - had to have a black bag & towels on the seat & wear black trousers as even super max tampon & night time pads are useless against the tsunami of blood.

However I’d say a tennis ball sized one needs checking with a doctor - it is fucking horrendous, you have my sympathy. Hope you get it sorted.

What I'm not sure about is the number of days I should be taking the t acid for?

I usually take it 3 because that's when I was heaviest. Now I'm fairly lightish in those days.
I've not had t acid since yesterday evening and have only bleed through a super tampon worth today.

Then whoosh - flooded a pad and had a huge clot. Passed 2 more smaller clots on toilet and then 30 minutes later had this other clot.
Been passing a few smaller ones since.

It's almost like the t acid just delays it iyswim?

I'm wondering if I need to take it for longer days even though I'm not usually heavy on day 4?

OP my prescription is 2 tabs 3 times a day for 4 days if that helps?

Sorry about the wonky photo, I do tends to have large lots when I stop taking it although I'd never thought of it before and hadn't realised its always when I've just stopped taking the trans acid Hmm

youarenotkiddingme · 23/08/2018 19:59

See I reckon I've lost as much of not more in past few hours than I normally do over the 5 days!

Doesn't help that I'm abroad atm and confined to hotel room as I'd only walked to shop 50m away earlier when first flood and clot happened and walked back to hotel like John Wayne!

Oh no, awful timing OP Sad

youarenotkiddingme · 23/08/2018 20:08

It could have been better 😂

The irony is yesterday was my 3rd day and I usually dread that and was the day we flew etc.
But thanks to tablets it went off ok.

Been absolutely fine all day. This came as a surprise and I'd only used a pad because I don't bleed enough to need a tampon this late in my period. (Usually!)

“My doctor told me menafamic acid has been withdrawn in the UK”

Oh really?! I hope that’s nothing to worry about. I have it on repeat prescription (first prescribed about a year ago I guess).

chipsandgin · 23/08/2018 21:43

I don’t think it’s anything to worry about - especially if you’ve had no issues. This was about 2 weeks ago, went & asked for repeat prescription (because I’ve delayed/wimped out of having an ablation) & previously had had the tranexamic and menafamic so was hoping for more of the same & she said about the menafamic & gave me naproxen instead - which for me seemed better anyway. Might be worth checking with the GP though?

chipsandgin · 23/08/2018 21:44

Sorry - that was in reply to @PaintBySticker

PaintBySticker · 23/08/2018 22:05

Thanks. Yes I guess I should. I did look into getting an IUD but I haven’t booked the appointment (timing is difficult as my periods are unpredictable).
