Do Steroid Injections in Big Toe Help - Longterm?

I have been dreading having a steroid injection in my end big toe joint. I dropped a large piece of marble on my toe in December! It still hurts now and often hurts severely. It still feels like it’s been crushed badly if I just kneel for a short time. Flexion of the toe as walking hurts 8/10. I have read links regarding excruciating pain having toe injected. What about long term relief? Could anyone post for me please whether they think the pain of injection was worth the relief, if any! Thank-you.
