My DD is nearly two but since she was a few months old i have periodically become aware of her breathing when she is asleep sounding odd. I've been to the GP twice and they don't seem concerned but am thinking of going back. We were sharing a room with her on holiday recently and to my dismay on at least three nights I heard this strange breathing again. It's best described as episodes of up to 5 minutes where she suddenly goes from normal, even breaths to jerky, uneven rapid panting - usually 4 or 5 very short, staccato breaths, followed by a longer one out. It sounds just like how you breathe if you have been crying really hard and then can't take a normal breath in. It is quite distressing to hear but she looks okay during it, isn't going blue round the mouth or having retractions or anything, and then usually after stirring will resume normal breathing rhythms again. GP listened to heart and lungs when she was a few months old and said all fine but to record it if I was still worried. Got crap quality recording when she was 6 months and saw different doctor who thought it sounded like a form of snoring when her nose is blocked (not convinced by this explanation personally). Can anyone recognise this? Should I be worried? I've searched Internet and only thing I can find is poster on an American forum describing exactly this site and saying their child has been checked out thoroughly and nothing found. I should point out that otherwise my DD is healthy, as far as we know.
