Worried about pain on right side

Ive NC’d for this...

I’ve finally booked a gp appointment for this but it’s not until September so could could do with a bit of advice.

I’ve been having pains in my right side for years. I had an ultrasound scan quite a few years ago which didn’t pick anything up. If I’m honest I’m worried it might be my liver. This is because the pain went both times when I was pregnant and I didn’t drink any alcohol at all. I’ve become aware of the pain again. Years ago it was a knawing pain but now it’s dull subtle aches spread over a bigger area. Occasionally on my back but mostly on the front, maybe about 10cm above my hip. I’ve honestly never been an alcoholic but I have always enjoyed wine and g&ts. Most of the time we have a rule that we don’t drink during the week but we always used to drink every weekend and share a bottle of wine on a Friday and Saturday and quite often on a Sunday too. Before I had children I had a very stressful job and fell into the habit of having a drink in the evenings too - not every night though. When I was at uni and in my 20s I drank irresponsibly. I’m small and I have this nagging worry that I’ve done myself a damage. Since I’ve become more aware of the pain I’ve only had two glasses of wine on a Friday and Saturday. I had no problem doing that so have decided to give up all together. I went to the doctors a few weeks ago after I noticed a bleed when I went to the loo. I had haemorrhoids during my last pregnancy and they think it’s because of that. I’m just really worried about it and I’m expecting to go to the GP in three weeks time and they won’t look into it any further. Also I’m worried I will get reported to SS if they think it’s connected to drinking (which is partly why I’ve ignored it for so long).

I’m a very anxious person anyway but this is really worrying me. I’ve got two small children and worried this will be something that means I won’t get to see them grow up Sad

I’m sorry I can’t provide any professional help but I would try to keep busy as much as possible to take your mind off it x

Is it worse after fatty foods? Could it be gallstones? How long does the pain last? Does it come on at night? Gallstone pain often goes to the back.

However, if it was that, it should have been picked up by the previous scan and gallstone pain is often worse or starts during/after pregnancy.

My gallstone pain sometimes felt like a trapped air bubble but later it was an almost constant feeling as if someone had punched me in the ribs. I got relief if I sat forward and it was worse when I straightened up.

Make sure you give the GP the full history, Best of luck.

Yes gallstones came to my mind too. What does the pain feel like? Does it seem to come on in waves, rather like contractions do - and then suddenly go?

Thanks for the replies. I’m not sure if it’s worse after fatty foods or not to be honest I haven’t noticed it being so. I’ve noticed it pretty much on and off all day today. It’s extremely subtle but it’s definitely there and always on the right side. It’s not a sharp pain. At some points it did feel like a throbbing type pain and very deep in my side. When they did the scan a few years ago they did it on a very specific area so I suppose they might have missed it if it had been gallstones. The thing that is worrying me is that it disappeared completely both times when I was pregnant I.e when I stopped drinking.

Well we had sausage and chips for dinner tonight so quite fatty and I noticed the pain was sharper after that so I suppose (hope) its gallstones

I have the same thing & no one seems to be able to figure out what it is.
I’ve got some more tests in September.
I do have gallstones & when I think I’m having an (agonising) attack, I’m told that it’s probably not to do with the gallstones.
The pain in my right side often feels like a bruise.
