pain during sex?

I was just wondering if anyone else suffers with pain during sex? I've been having the problem for the last couple of years, but I'm a bit apprehensive to go to the doctors, as the examinations hurt too. I had a smear after the birth of dd, and nothing abnormal came back. does thrush show on a smear? If nothing showed on the smear does anyone know what it could be? It's doing my head in to say the least. DH is great about it, and doesn't mind the lack of intercourse in our sex life, but I feel we are both missing out, especially as we would both like to try for our second child. any help please ?

Is it definitely linked (or not) to the birth? Did you suffer much damage? Maybe it's old scar tisse that hasn't healed properly - I had pain for about a year after, but luckily it did sort itself out.

I would definitely see the doctor - hopefully s/he'll be able to work out what the problem is & how to solve it, so you can enjoy yourself again - and get cracking with no. 2.

Sorry I can't be more help - I really do sympathise.

I had problems during breastfeeding, but it cleared up after that. Though a few years ago I was finding sex painful and I went to my ob-gyn (in the usa) and she found a few cysts on my ovaries which she suggested might be causing the problem. She put me on the pill for 3 months, they cleared up and the pain went away! Definitely worth going to see your doctor about. And if he/she doesn't take it seriously, find another.

Go to the docs - if an internal is painful ask them before you go to leave you sonmething to take prior to the appointment to help you relax/ease the pain I had dreadful pain during sex post birth (and I had a c section!)
Turned out to be all in the mind as they say (post traumatic stress no less) and I was sent to phsycho sexual counselling, which worked to a large extent (I now have number two baby) but am sometimes still apprehensive about intercourse. If your doc doesn't take it seriously ask for a referral - it shouldn't have to be like this

AimeesMum, There are so many reasons why someone can have painful intercourse. I would get checked out to make sure you dont any kind of infection in the cervix that may not show symptoms. Other reasons (treatable) could be edometriosis or tumors and cysts on the ovaries. These I beleive can be common ones. I also read about having muscle spasms during intercourse. This is when the inside tightens up somewhat. There can be a number of reasons. I also have this problem and probally should get checked out myself. Go and have an examiniation. It will be done in a matter of minutes. This way youll know if you do have any kind of problem. You may even have torn tissue that has not healed yet. Hope things get better.

I had the pain before I was pregnant with dd, so I don't think it's anything to do with the birth. I'll definatley make myself an appointment with the doctor, fingers crossed it's something simple!
thanks for the adive, it's much appreciated!

I guess he's just average! lol. We'd been together for a year before the problem started. It seems that the pain is at the back of my vagina, I can pin point the area when I've felt inside, so not sure what it is.

ks - stop boasting

It took me and dh so long to have sex again, after ds was born that everything was healed up (or should I say healed OVER!)
