Its a mooncup/period thing so bound to be far tmi! But advice needed!!

When I was on the pill, I could wear my mooncup for about 8 hours during the day before needing to empty.

Its taken 3 periods since starting again after the coil to remember how to get decent positioning (was leaking/hurting because it was in too high for the first 3 months and kept giving up and using towels).

The end of last month got it sussed, so this time it has been in fine... but for the last 2 days (days 2 & 3) its been filling within 2 hours and leaking if I don't change in time.

I am extremely tearful and over-reacting to everything. I'm starting to think that the amount of loss had made my iron levels drop and its anaemia kicking in which is making me like this (completely irrational namechange thread about my mum earlier than I am now very about!!!).

I know that it only takes a small drop for me to become anaemic, but could a heavy period do it?? I am wary to take iron unless I am in need as it has a very strong binding effect on me (see I did warn about the tmi!!!) even with spatone.

Please someone give some sort of advice (if you can work out what advice I am after reading that!!).

That certainly is a heavy loss Flame (not that uncommon as other threads on here have shown )

I think it would be affecting your health, yes - would you think about seeing your GP about it?

CarGirl · 02/06/2007 20:36

Well I got anaemic via heavy periods (ended up with mirena coil in desperation) and yes I'd be leaking from my moon cup within 2 hours for the first 3 days. So it does sound like heavy period.

MerlinsBeard · 02/06/2007 20:38

i only clicked this because it was you!

takes v little for my iron to drop and heavy periods can do that to me. i am borderline most of the time.

re periods, if you are affected by the moon its full so could have a bearing on your erm flow

expatinscotland · 02/06/2007 20:38

What type of coil are you using?

The non-hormonal one can cause very heavy periods in some users.

But if yours is so bad it's adversely affecting your life a lot and/or making you anaemic, you may need to consider another form of birth control.

Please phone your GP's surgery on Monday.

Flame · 02/06/2007 20:43

Yup its the non-hormone one. I would rather just take the extra iron for periods than change contraception.

It is the first time in years that I have been on just my natural hormones and I feel sooo good - my mood swings are less swingy and much more natural. Its only been this month where my diet is cr*p that the iron has been an issue.

I'll go out and take some iron now.

MoM - the cycle has been lengthening each month and getting closer to full moon each time, I'm really intrigued to see what it does next time!!

Going by the last 2 months, tomorrow it'll have slowed right back to needing changing every 6-8 hours... my body seems to want to get it over and done with at once

Thank you for all the responses

would you go back to tampons/towels to see if its "normal" for you? I don't really know much about mooncups they make me shiver! But sometimes (TMI alert) at the beginning of a period i am changing tampons every few hours especially if i have been stressed or cycle is especially long

Flame · 02/06/2007 20:51

No way - tampons gave me huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuge issues (more tmi - hurt too much for any erm, intimacy for a very very long time, stopped using them and gradually healed).

I know from when I first changed over that about 8 hours with the mooncup was about 4 hours with super whatever tampons. Oh, and the first period since the coil in desperation I tried tampons because I assumed I was just getting the cup wrong, and it was leaking everywhere within about 30 mins.

Its def better with the cup, it was more the anaemia thing that I was concerned about.

ouch!

Ok, will shush now so someone proper can help!

Flame · 02/06/2007 20:54

lol - you all have helped.

Taken iron pill (no orange juice for the spatone).

Watch out for thread next week "Its been 6 days since I've sh*t - help!"

I had heavier flow for the first 2 days but shorter periods overall, so recognise what you say about getting it all over with asap.

Sorry you feel so bad but you're still acclimatising and IME it is well worth persevering.

You've got the position right, give it another couple of cycles to see if the flow on days 2/3 is manageable.

I struggled at first but ended up thinking it was the best thing since before sliced bread. My only regret is I didn't find it sooner.
