How serious is this? DP is in hospital originally for chest infection, but they're now saying it
is a heart valve infection. They seem to be saying it's treatable but I have Googled(yeah I know) and it does look bad.
Anyone had this or know anything about it? I gather it's not common.

Like many illnesses it will depend on many things - age, fitness level and staging.
I have a regurgitating aortic valve and until recently was advised to take antibiotics before and after every dental work. But now been told that is not considered necessary.. The danger was thought to be a risk of infection to the heart valve from infected gums,
Antibiotics are used to cure it.
As far as I know I have not had a valve infection, but not heard of it being fatal.
Good luck for your DP's speedy recovery

My baby had endocarditis on his mitral valve which caused regurgitation and he had to have 2 open heart surgeries to remove and fix it at 3 and 4 weeks old. He had IV and oral antibiotics for weeks but he's very well now. Google is scary (I did the same as you!) so try not to worry too much. Antibiotics will be the first step and hopefully that should be all he needs to be on the mend. Good luck x

I really must step away from Google mustn't I !
