he was given steroid tablets for his asthma on thursday, since then hes been really grumpy, screaming and clingy,oh and lots od diarhoa.because of the list of side effects and his age-17 months(meaning he cant say whats up)-theyre worried he could be having reactionim stuck at home AGAIN as our only car now has no back seatbelts and we have 2 other dc.
just worried.im sure if it is reaction theyll just take them off him.

glad he's feeling better. what's his steroid dosage? it can make them really really really grumpy and upset/clingy but i think normally at a very high dose. we always give coke without the fizz in it for the rehydration thing - don't know your feelings on that?

kittypants · 02/06/2007 22:11

dosage is 5 twice a day so now once a day.dh said gp wasnt very helpful and said that its more likely to make them hyper.gp on phone had been worried as he could be having chest pains etc and cant say so screaming ,grumpy etc.
wouldnt normally give coke(im a meany!plus id drink it all if it was in the house!) but i'll give it a go,thankyou!its either that or wait till monday
thanks

not a medical opinion! but know lots about steroids and at 10mg/day you might well get a bit hyper but also lots of emotional stuff like being clingy, moody, crying for no real reason. having said that, ds1 is usually ok on 10mg but of couse, he is a bit older and bigger so the dose is not as strong iyswim. hope your ds does better on 5mg/day instead

No experience of this myself but I remember my SIL boy was given steriods for asthma when he was about 18 months and she said he was bouncing off the walls and being really naughty! Must be quite a common reaction then.
